Back to School September 2009
Welcome back to School,
This summer I packed up my room on the first floor and moved upstairs. It was interesting watching my new classroom take shape. It was transformed from the 4k classroom to two second grade rooms for Mrs. Sleider and myself. We have new walls, carpet, whiteboards, storage closets, and new smiling second graders to fill our classrooms. It is so convenient to be close to all three second grades so we can share ideas and discuss what is best for our students. A special thanks to the EPTO for giving us new outside balls and jumpropes for each classroom this year.
We are practising classroom routines and getting to know one another. We have been taking assessments in reading, spelling, writing and math to see our strengths and areas of weakness. We are taking the MAPS assessment which is a district wide test that we will take 3 times each year starting in second grade. Results will be shared with you later in the first quarter.
Remember to help your child to read for 15 minutes each night. Practise those addition and subtraction facts too.
We are off to a great start. Remember our school motto. Eagles soar above all other!
Looking forward to great year!

Library
Due to the large volume of classes on Thursdays, we need to return library books on Wednesday. This will allow the books to be reshelved and available for the students to check out on Thursday.
Back to School
Our school year is off to a great start. We have 17 eager students who are excited about learning and getting to know each other. This month we have worked on routines and classroom expectations. Our schedule and specials are becoming more comfortable to us. We have tested the children in literacy and math skills to guide our instruction.
Children will bring home a homework folder with a reading log and possible homework each night. They are to read for at least 15 minutes and have an adult sign their log to return to school. An adult should also check their homework and make sure they have completed what they need. A daily agenda should be in their backpack with their assignment.
Any take home papers will be in the take home folder. An adult needs to check that folder as well. These daily routines help your child to learn responsibility for their own learning and organization.
I look forward to a wonderful year,
Mrs. Ruskey
